The Proud Parent™ Ask Me Anything Tour is one tour with host-specific outreach materials for libraries, churches, and community spaces.
The program brings practical LGBTQ+ family-support education into the places families already trust. It is designed for adults who want to support LGBTQ+ youth but may feel afraid of saying the wrong thing, confused by misinformation, or isolated from affirming resources.
This is not a lecture about being perfect. It is a grounded, human conversation about what helps young people feel safer, more supported, and more able to stay connected to the adults who love them.

The Proud Parent helps adults move from fear, shame, and misinformation into practical, protective love.
Why this matters
While LGBTQ+ resources are often concentrated in cities, families in suburban and rural communities frequently navigate a child’s identity in isolation. Parents and grandparents who want to be supportive may face a vacuum of accurate information and an abundance of misinformation.
Being better informed can be life-saving. Family affirmation is one of the strongest protective factors for LGBTQ+ youth mental health, including reducing risk for depression and suicide.
The core idea: LGBTQ+ young people are born everywhere — including rural towns, suburbs, small cities, faith communities, and families that may not already be connected to LGBTQ+ organizations. Support needs to be available everywhere too.

90 minutes total
Foundational education
Nathaniel establishes the foundational principles of affirmation and the neurobiology of acceptance, translating clinical theory into practical parenting and caregiving tools.
Ask Me Anything
A facilitated, unscripted Q&A where families get direct answers to the questions they are often afraid to ask.

The Proud Parent™ Ask Me Anything Tour is one program with one clear pricing structure. Library, church, and community hosts receive different outreach language because their audiences and decision-makers are different, but the core offer is the same.

Cost
$500 flat booking fee for host organizations.
Registration is handled entirely by Gray Area Consulting through a dedicated online portal and QR code. The goal is zero administrative burden on host staff.
Church logistics: faith-community sessions are available Wednesday evenings and Sundays, either after morning service or in the evening. Contact Nathaniel for date availability.

About Nathaniel Gray
Nathaniel Gray, MSW brings lived and professional experience to this work.
- Rooted in the work: While receiving a Master of Social Work from Fordham University, Nathaniel worked directly with homeless LGBTQ+ youth as a clinical counselor and case manager.
- NYS contractor: Currently a Subject Matter Expert for the NYS OMH Suicide Prevention Center of New York, developing statewide suicide prevention training.
- Policy architect: Former Empire State Fellow; co-authored LGBTQ+ practice guidance used across New York State child welfare and civil service systems.
- Regional leadership: Former Executive Director of the Pride Center of the Capital Region; raised over $1.5M to expand mental health services in rural and suburban counties.

No. It is for adults who want to support LGBTQ+ young people and need a safe, practical place to begin. The tone is non-shaming, but the goal is clear: helping adults become safer and more supportive.
Is this appropriate for people who are nervous or unsure?
Yes. The program is designed for honest questions, including the questions people may be afraid to ask elsewhere.
Is this therapy?
No. This is an educational workshop and facilitated Q&A. It offers practical guidance, language, and resources, but it is not therapy or clinical treatment.
Who handles registration?
